Lauren Yakima absolutely slayed this season. Her explosive Qualifiers routine gave JLo “goosies” and her powerful Duels performance showed off her strength and technique. Learn more about this young talent in WOD Magazine’s exclusive Q&A below.

WOD: How did it feel when you found out you’d be on Season 3?

LY: I was overwhelmed with emotion and so excited! I couldn’t believe one of my biggest dreams was coming true!

WOD: What style are you performing, and why?

LY: I’m performing a powerful contemporary style because it’s the style I connect the most with and even though I am trained in many other styles of dance, I most like to move with power.

WOD: How long have you been dancing, or dancing with your group?

LY: I’ve been dancing since I was 2 years old.

WOD: Where do you draw inspiration from? Who/what inspires you?

LY: I am inspired by my sister, Amy, and my choreographer, Kayla Kalbfleisch, because they both have a unique way to their movements which is mesmerizing to watch.

WOD: What do you think your fans would want to know about you?

LY: I just recently started a cosmetology apprenticeship because I love doing hair, makeup, and nails.  I am really excited to do this in my future, as well as dance professionally!

WOD: Why do you think dance is important to the world?

LY: I think dance is important because it can connect people to an idea or feeling in a way that encompasses more than just one sense or one emotion, or just words.

WOD: What are you most excited/nervous about being on the show?

LY: I’m the most excited about performing in front of the amazing judges on the WOD stage!  I’m usually never super nervous to perform but the first time I was on the WOD stage, I was terrified!

WOD: What sets you apart from the competition?

LY: I have a powerful dynamic within my contemporary movement and a strong performance quality.
