Jenna Dewan Tatum has been a backup dancer for everyone, including Christina Aguilera, Missy Elliott, and Pink. In fact, she started out as a backup dancer for Janet Jackson. This led her to acting in TV shows such as The Playboy Club, American Horror Story: Asylum, and Witches of East End. These days, she stars as Lucy Lane on Supergirl and is now one of the star judges for NBC’s World of Dance. But while she at times seems everywhere, there’s a lot you don’t know about Jenna Dewan Tatum. Here are a few fun facts.
1. She’s a huge fan of flea markets.
Though she stuns in formalwear and maintains a glamorous life, Dewan Tatum can’t say no to a sprawling market of vintage goodies. When she has a day off, there’s a good chance you’ll find her at your local flea market. It’s a fun game to find the stylish and timeless among so many offerings! Also among her favorite things are vision boards, ladybugs, sleep masks, and little white dogs.
2. She loves riding her bike.
There are a number of ways to relax on vacation and riding your bike in the warm afternoon sun (especially with a breeze) or underneath the moonlight is almost a good call. Dewan Tatum certainly gets it, explaining, “My family has had a house on Nantucket for many generations, and one of my favorite things to do it is to ride my bike there. I’m still amazed there aren’t any spotlights on the entire island!” Still, she says she feels her most relaxed in Hawaii.
3. She used to date Justin Timberlake.
Sure, for more than a decade, after meeting on the set of their dance flick Step Up, Dewan Tatum has been in an adorably perfect relationship with now-husband and fellow actor Channing Tatum. But her life before that magical moment featured some other notable leading men, including actor Shane West. The most famous beau in her youth, however, was Timberlake, whom she started dating in 2000 while a back-up dancer for NSYNC. This eventually led to an uncomfortable interaction with Britney Spears at a club, which, as rumor has it, then somehow led to a dance-off.
4. She’s been vegan since childhood.
When she was a self-described “latchkey kid,” Dewan Tatum caught a TV program on slaughterhouses and swore off meat right then and there. These days, her go-tos are often Mediterranean—tahini, tabbouleh, hummus, and salads. The animal activist also readily dives into Mexican food. Like most dancers, she’s a very conscious eater, so when she cheats, it’s something like french fries or chips and salsa. Meanwhile, husband Channing tried veganism, but it just didn’t suit him. Together, they’re raising their daughter to be vegetarian and will let her choose her own diet lifestyle.
5. She partied at Neverland Ranch back in the day.
Maybe you already assumed this, given how Dewan Tatum’s career began. But it’s still a big deal. Not every dancer of Janet’s was invited to party down at the infamous compound of brother Michael. Naturally, when Dewan Tatum arrived at the ranch’s dance party, she jumped right into the mix.
