World of Dance asks Royal Thieves About Their Journey to Championship Week
WOD: Can you give us a little background about the crew? How long have you been together and how did you meet?
Royal Thieves: Royal Thieves is a NYC Hip-hop based crew that has been around for only 3 years.
The group we have now is a complete different group then what we started with but is
stronger now than ever. We are under the direction of Deshawn Da Prince who is also
our choreographer and Maricela Ferran who is his assistant and our business manager.
Deshawn kind of hand selected everyone on the crew and we all happened to just get
along so well. Our vibe is pure and it stems from our mentors teachings and
development. It feels like a family gathering everytime we meet up
WOD: What are you feeling going the Championships?
Royal Thieves: Going into the championships is honestly a dream come true. We work really hard but to be honest going into the WOD show in Boston we didn’t think we would come out being placed we just wanted to go and entertain so when we got 3rd place and crowds favorite it was more than
we can ask for. Going into this we have the same mindset , we just want to dance and put
smiles on everyone’s faces.
WOD: What is your favorite part of competing in World of Dance?
Royal Thieves: The best part about competing in WOD is seeing all the other talented groups
perform and knowing that its always so much more we can work on. Its so motivating
and inspiring to see so many unique dope crews in one place at one time.
WOD: What part of your dance, choreography, or performance are you most proud of?
Royal Thieves: The part of our dance that we are most proud of is the ending. Last time we
competed we did this hype Jersey club style to end it with some dope visuals and we
thought this time we should bring it back but on a whole new level. Very excited to show
you guys what we came up with this time around.
WOD: What exciting things will you be doing/focusing on in the next year?
Royal Thieves: There are a couple of exciting things we have been working on leading into the next
year. We just auditioned for the WOD NBC TV show and hope that we make it onto the
show. We also will be attending Monsters convention and competing again in WOD but
decided to try it in our own home town N.Y.
WOD: Why do you think dance is important to the world?
Royal Thieves: We think dance is important to the world because its the one thing that can help
express emotions without words. We use dance to get away from all the negative things
going on in life. If more people listened to music and allowed their soul to breath it we
would have a better place. Dance is love !
WOD: What’s your favorite part about being a crew?
Royal Thieves: Our favorite part about being a crew is that we are more than a crew, we are a
WOD: Anything else you’d like to add?
Royal Thieves: We honestly just want to thank you for the opportunity. We have worked to hard to
get to this point and we just want to put on a great show because win or loss this is one
of the greatest opportunities we have ever had. We get to compete with the WORLD!!!
